The Big Bear Cubs Learn about Teeth!

Updated: May 3

For our first few blogs I will be giving parents a behind the scenes look at what goes on in our Big Bear Cub classroom during the week. Every couple weeks I’ll be giving you a short summary of our activities, what our students enjoyed most, and what we have to look forward to throughout the rest of the year. Our goal here at Honey Bear Preschool is to promote healthy childhood development through stimulating activities, social interaction, and educational lessons.

As some of our oldest students, the Big Bear Cubs program is specifically designed to get students ready for the next step in their education. One of my favorite parts of working at Honey Bear is that I can design a program that is tailored to my students. Watching them progress throughout the year is really wonderful, and I take great pride in knowing that I did my absolute best to prepare them for Kindergarten and beyond.

Throughout the course of the year our activities and lessons progress with our students' development. Whether that be math and literacy, health and nutrition, social skills, or basic history, our lesson plans dynamically change so that our weekly activities correspond to the skills that our students have been working hard to master.

This past week our Big Bear Cubs absolutely loved learning about dental health. No matter how long I have been a preschool teacher, young children’s excitement for learning and exploring new topics will always be an inspiration to me. Through arts and crafts, games, songs, books, and food my students were introduced to a whole new world of dental health and hygiene which many have come to love. We even did a science experiment to demonstrate the effect that soda and other food choices have on your teeth. While our students might not remember the details of what they learned this week I do my best to emphasize the overall importance of what we were learning rather than the specifics. This week's dental health focus helped to reinforce the importance of taking care of your body, your teeth and yourself. I have a feeling that many of our students will be excited to brush their teeth going forward. Some of our students wanted to after every snack they had!

Next week is President’s day! For us here at Honey Bear Preschool that means a Monday holiday (who doesn’t love a three day weekend) but more importantly it means a focus on history and some of the historic people that helped found our great nation. We will be going through a variety of arts and crafts, including a puppet show to help our Big Bear Cubs learn about important people such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. I don’t want to spoil too much though, so be sure to come back and read all about what our amazing 4 year olds are learning and doing here at Honey Bear Preschool in San Diego!

Wrap Up For the Week

Thank you so much for reading our first blog for our weekly activities here at Honey Bear preschool! It is such a great privilege to work with all of my amazing students and I couldn’t be more excited to have you all on this journey as well. I’m sure that our blog will give you a great insight into what makes Honey Bear so special. I’ll see you on our next blog, thanks for reading!
